![]() ![]() We’ve since launched a video series covering their incredible journey that takes viewers through their process of building a yurt and living in the ruggedness of Canada’s wilderness. To learn more about their adventures, we sent them a Q&A to see what it’s like to live off the grid in a Pacific Yurt. Let’s start with a quick introduction of you and your yurt. We run a couple of successful YouTube channels. What inspired you to pursue an off the grid yurt lifestyle? And we live in a 30 foot Pacific Yurt located on North Vancouver Island. Jake : I traveled throughout China and Mongolia when I was 21 years old. While in the grasslands of Mongolia, I stayed in a traditional Mongolian Yurt – it was an amazing experience! I remember loving the design and feeling of warmth and comfort that the yurt gave me while I was wrapped in wool blankets safe inside that Mongolian Yurt. Nicole and I also enjoy watching YouTube videos of families and couples who build and live in unique housing. What made Pacific Yurts standout over other structures or companies on the market? We relished the chance to design our own yurt interior, so we thought a Pacific Yurt would be the perfect dwelling for our move to raw forested property in Canada! Many of the families we saw living in Yurts had these amazing living spaces that looked comfortable and quite beautiful. Jake: We researched about 10 other yurt companies before choosing Pacific Yurts. We kept coming back to their yurts because they looked very clean, resilient, and mindfully designed around the structure’s traditions, but with added modern features. We were also impressed by Pacific Yurts’ professional social media pages, which allowed us to see a wide variety of ways their yurts were built and lived in among hundreds of different settings. #LIVING OFF GRID JAKE AND NICOLE PROFESSIONAL# We loved being able to use the Pacific Yurts 3D Yurt Builder on their website to customize a yurt and see what ours would look like!įinally, of all the companies we looked at, Pacific Yurts was the most helpful and responsive to our questions and our ideas when we communicated with them over email or by phone. We just knew their helpfulness and professionalism with our situation would carry over into their yurt design!Ĭan you talk about the assembly process and what that’s been like? Nicole: The assembly process had its moments. I would say the most challenging part was building the yurt platform. In fact, it took us a lot longer to finish the platform because we were building the platform over three feet high on very uneven ground. However, when we started to put the Yurt together, it was a blast. Unwrapping each piece was like opening a Christmas present for us. Seeing the French doors, the glass windows, the frames for the windows and the dome brought tears to my eyes. What’s it like living in an off the grid yurt? #LIVING OFF GRID JAKE AND NICOLE WINDOWS# Jake: It’s been a fun and challenging adventure! Our property can only be accessed by boat, so our materials had to be barged over to us. We also had to cut our way into our land and clear a spot for the yurt because our property was so heavily forested and raw. After clearing the space, we built the platform and assembled the yurt in about a month–despite the snow, rain, black flies, and mosquitos attempting to stop us! Once the platform was finished, we waited for a stretch of sunny weather to happen, which let us put up our yurt in just three days. I must say, Nicole really enjoyed the process of putting up the yurt because it went by so fast. ![]() ![]() It also made us feel very accomplished, and we found the structure itself to be designed so mindfully. We felt so much accomplishment and joy when we were able to sleep in our new yurt on night one! Nicole: We genuinely love the look of the Yurt! Our living space has such a relaxing and geometric look to it. And the ring, dome and rafters remind me of the sun putting off rays of sunshine. The Yurt allows us to hear the sounds of nature that surround us while keeping us mosquito and bug-free. #LIVING OFF GRID JAKE AND NICOLE WINDOWS#. ![]() #LIVING OFF GRID JAKE AND NICOLE SERIES#.#LIVING OFF GRID JAKE AND NICOLE PROFESSIONAL#. ![]()

![]() ![]() In his earliest appearances, Elmer actually "wikes wabbits", either attempting to take photos of Bugs, or adopting Bugs as his pet. He is much more recognizable as the Elmer Fudd of later cartoons than Bugs is here. Elmer has a better voice, a trimmer figure and his familiar hunting clothes. Bugs appears with a carrot, New York accent, and "What's Up, Doc?" catchphrase all in place for the first time, although the voice and physique are as yet somewhat off. In the interim, the two starred in A Wild Hare. In 1941's Elmer's Pet Rabbit its other title character is labeled as Bugs Bunny, but is also identical to his counterpart in Camera. ![]() Later that year, he appeared in Friz Freleng's Confederate Honey (where he's called Ned Cutler) and The Hardship of Miles Standish where his voice and Egghead-like appearance were still the same. In 1940, Elmer's appearance was refined, giving him a chin and a less bulbous nose and Arthur Quirk Bryan's "Dan McFoo" voice in what most people consider Elmer Fudd's first true appearance: a Chuck Jones short entitled Elmer's Candid Camera. Elmer debutsĮlmer Fudd, resembled the earlier character of Egghead early in his career, is annoyed by the prototype Bugs in Elmer's Candid Camera. The best known Elmer Fudd cartoons include Chuck Jones' masterpiece What's Opera, Doc? Elmer's signature catchphrase is, "Be vewy vewy quiet, I'm hunting wabbits", as well as his trademark laughter, "huh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh". His aim is to hunt Bugs, but he usually ends up seriously injuring himself and other antagonizing characters. cartoon pantheon (second only to Bugs himself). You might have to zoom out to see it: the default size is way too big! From the viewport, we hit “Shift + A” then go to “Mesh -> Cylinder” to add a new cylinder to the scene. Now we take a break from Geometry Nodes to create a model for the sprinkles we want to distribute over the surface of the icing. We need to add a “Join Geometry” node to combine our points with the original icing mesh, like this:įor the time being, we also set the density of our points to “0”, which will hide the giant “blobs” that Blender is currently rendering in the viewport: This is because we have replaced our icing mesh with the output from “Distribute Points on Faces”. The icing also appears to have “disappeared”. We need to toggle the density to adjust this, which we will do later. You can see there’s a single enormous “point” sticking to the icing. Hit “Shift + A” to add a new node, then start searching using the search bar that opens: We now need to add a “Distribute Points On Faces” node. I now delete the Geometry Nodes I created for the Donut, and switch to the Icing instead: We don’t want to alter the donut, but rather the icing (we are adding sprinkles). For instance, if we add a “set position” node and add a Z offset, the donut now moves (the output mesh position has been changed): The node on the right is the final mesh, after any changes made by our geometry nodes. The node on the left (Group Input) reads in the existing data for our mesh (for the donut, in this case). Note that if your nodes disappear, you can get them back by clicking on the “Geometry Nodes” modifier in the right-hand pane: Now, we click on “New” to create a new geometry node setup: We won’t be needing the window in the upper left that shows the positions of all our vertices, so we can close that: Click on that, and choose “General -> Geometry Nodes”. If you don’t see this, look for a little down arrow near the top right corner of the top menu bar. We’ll create a new Workspace (tab) at the top of blender, which will allow us to see our geometry node setup alongside our donut: This enables all sorts of cool stuff, from the ability to dynamically generate frost or icicles on a surface, to the ability to create buildings whose height, window position, and number of floors are all procedurally controlled. Much like the nodes we’ve used so far to create texture, geometry nodes allow use to procedurally generate changes to the mesh (changes to our objects). In previous versions of the donut tutorial, “particles” were used, but “geometry nodes” are a better option in Blender 3.x. Next, we want to add some sprinkles to the donut.
